Zakk Wylde Soloing Technique - Using the 9th
Nice lick and technique.
Nice work
Thanks man much appreciated!
Yngwie has said many times that he has never and doesn't sweep pick his arpeggios
Well my apologies then Wayne please turn off this video and go about your day.
@@LicksoftheLegend I'm just saying if you want to look into his technique because I don't know what technique he is using that is not sweeping. I wasn't trying to give a negative comment
Very nice lesson. Thanks and subscribed....
Thanks! I appreciate that.
Thank you! This is the kind of lick that is it fun to practice because it sounds amazing, sound better than the standard scale. This will help me level up.
Yeah I really like this one too. It teaches the scale in a more hands on way.
@@LicksoftheLegend , yes! that is exactly what happened after a few minutes. I knew of the scale before, but this easy lick just taught me another scale other than standard. I did level up! Cheers!
I want you to show me the way to do those licks
Love it! Thank you!
Thank man!
Another nice one! Thanks for the ideas.
COOL !!! I'm doing the meat and potatoes stuff on my channel .... lol !!
Dude I love what you do! You do a great job of breaking licks down and have those kick ass Dean guitars.
Wicked
Thanks Keith! You’re a heck of a guitar player man. Saw a few of your Instagram videos.
Tabs😊
Available on the patron.
Man I'm so jealous u can pick like that too so hard man to use the middle finger for picking. So I've watched dean lamb alot from archspire and man he uses that hybrid picking technique stuff just is incredible playing. I will have to try that one I do try and use my middle finger sometimes but I fall off cuz it's like so crazy to wrap my head around
You know what really helped me a lot? I learned a few basic finger picking patterns on the acoustic guitar and found it drastically helped my hybrid picking.
Mastodon use this a lot.
Absolutely man. Brent Hinds uses this technique in tons and tons of songs.
Hell yeah man, would love to see more of the chickin pickin licks man
Dang you're quick to the draw. I'm not even done linking this video haha. For sure man I can do that.
Got tabs for this stuff?
I offer tabs on the patreon.
nice dude
Thanks man! Also gotta say dude you are a phenomenal artist wow!
Try to make lessons about DOUBLE Pull off licks, you pull off in groups of 2s. Randy Rhoads would pull off to a fretted note then pull off the fretted note to an open string which is a Double Pull off. Yngwie Malmsteen often will use TURNS ( not hammer ons ) while finger tapping creating TURNS.
Another nice idea to play with! Thank you!
Thanks man! I know this video might not get a ton of views but I find the idea really cool. You can do this with any three note per string scale.
I'm a bassist of 31 years, and I'm just switching to guitar. I'm also an Aerosmith freak, so of course Joe's the place (much like Mr. Hamilton 31 years ago haha). After playing for hours and hours a day, I felt I was making progress, and I was. But THIS video unlocked a ton for me! Short and sweet--this scale and the way you taught it in context was a GAME CHANGER! Thanks!
Thanks Dave! Glad I could help!
Another good one! Thanks!
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 love these vids mate even if I don’t get time to practice them. Best wishes😎
Much appreciated! Take your time with them lots on the channel.
Nice looking Kramer
Thanks! I love my kramers.
Awesome as always!! Thanks for the lessons.
No problem man!
Thats pretty sweet man i never really listened to joes stuff ever but i know how amazing of a guitar player he is!! Vai n malmsteen was wat my dad always had around i think he had a few of joes albums too! Ill check on that lick my friend! That exotic jason becker scale i cannot stop playn that shits so awsome haha thx bub!!!!
My pleasure man! Honestly check out Joes stuff. In my opinion he writes the most listenable songs of all the instrumental guys.
Thanks for the tutorial! I enjoy your videos, but here's an observation to keep in mind as you continue with more in the future: They are (i) not pentatonic shapes, nor would they, together, be (ii) considered in the key of Emin. I'm willing to be enlightened if I'm missing something, but hear me out. (i) These are just suspended chords (arpeggiated). Each shape only has 3 unique notes: A-D-E, then E-A-B (Asus4 and Esus4). Each shape lacks the characteristic tradeoffs between minor third and major second movements that the minor pentatonic shape offers. (ii) The suspended fourths (D and B, respectively) flirt with resolving to the C (or C#). So the KEY is Amin (or A; we could tell definitively with some other harmonic context). Emin pentatonic may be a scale whose notes are contained within Amin, but the tonal center is A. This can be felt as you finish on that B at 3:17... wants to resolve to A. All love, very much enjoy your style of guitar content.
Honestly man nothing you said is wrong but it’s far too much information to fit into a video like this. I want people who aren’t super theory expert to follow what I’m saying and I explain it the way I look at it for myself.
@@LicksoftheLegend makes total sense! The extra information I just gave to support my claim, and maybe those details could help someone 🤷♂keep up the good work
Nice man, another good one!
Thanks!
That's a fukn good one man! I so am gunna hit that shit up! Very cool u rock bub! Nice color on the kramer that's niice!!!!
Thanks man! I love my kramers.
Nice mate. Is your Kramer stock or have you made any adjustments to it? Cheers
This particular one has had the tuning pegs changed. They’re just cheap off brand Amazon tuners.
@@LicksoftheLegend I have the exact same guitar and was wondering if changing the pick ups would be a good idea or keep them stock
@@louiekariofillis8516 man I’m kinda wrestling with that myself. I personally think the stock pickups sound phenomenal but I’ve been thinking about putting a JB in.
Awesome lick. Thank you
No worries man plenty more Becker licks in the future. One of my favourites.
@@LicksoftheLegend yes please
Great man! Cheers from Brazil
Cheers man!
Thanks man,objective and effective,you rock!
Thanks man! I appreciate that.
Great tone!
Thanks! At the time I believe I was playing through a Zakk Wylde overdrive and a fender deville.
that pattern is sick ill have to mess with that one!
Thanks man!
Why does Zakk Wylde end his licks on the 9th? make more lessons about Zakk Wylde licks on the 9th
A lot of players end on the 9th it’s a very powerful note to utilize.
@@LicksoftheLegend ya but which Zakk Wylde licks end on the 9th from which songs? I don't think I have heard him ending on the 9th or using the 9th on any ozzy osbourne album?
@@waynegram8907farewell ballad by bls is a good example there’s a bunch more you can find them if you look.
@@LicksoftheLegend can you make 1 video that has a bunch of Zakk Wylde licks that uses the 9th? I'm curious on how he uses the 9th
That one looks really fun I will check that out! U are fukn rad yo
Thanks!
Sick! Thank you (it was me who asked about more sweep picking stuff). Love ripping at the end.
Thanks man!

@@arkhaam1 still confused. Is that what this sounds like or are you asking me about the song?
Recently found your channel as well, nice playin !!
Thanks Alan! Much appreciated.
How you dig those Kramers? I play Ibanez, and they seem to shred alright, but I'm always on the lookout.
For the money the Kramer Barretta special is the guitar shred guitar you can get imo
I’ve only just discovered your channel and it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, absolutely loving it so you are going to be the first patron account I’ve subscribed to. Keep up the awesome work bro.

Glad to hear man! Keep shredding
I didn't know you're Canadian. I'm going to consider dropping one of my American patreons and subscribing to yours, I really enjoy your content. Keep up the good work! Cheers from Mtl!
Much appreciated man!
Oof those stretches ... any advice on building the speed with stretches like that?
Slow and steady man. Take your time with it and enjoy the process cuz it may take a bit. As long as you’re consistent you’ll see improvement.
Try to find a bunch of GNR Slash scalar runs because he often rolls his index finger or rolls his ring finger creating patterns when going up and down scales to make lessons about them. LA guns song called sticking fingers guitar solo uses some cool licks to make a lesson about them
Another great one! Really appreciate the extra stuff at the end. That's the key, in my opinion. Yes, learn the lick, then apply it elsewhere and discover new stuff. Bouncing between aug5 and 7th on the first position of that lick sounds pretty slick.
Thanks man!
Your training is great 💯
Much appreciated!
Thanks ✌️
You could use snap picking as well 2 downs or ups in a row
For sure whatever works everyone’s different.
Thanks again man. Your videos are insta-like and insta-watch for me. I'm not a Zakk style player, but these licks are applicable anywhere.
Honestly that’s such a huge part of it for me. Yes these are Zakk licks but change the tempos and change your tone and these can be used in blues or rock even jazz to some extent.
Keep it up man, Very few Zakk Lessons on Yt
Thanks man!
